PRO FILIA Kantonalverein Zürich is a Catholic, politically independent association that accompanies people on their life journey and helps them to overcome physical, economic or social obstacles.

  • PRO FILIA Kantonalverein Zürich is involved in the SOS BahnhofHilfe at Zurich main station and Lucerne station with a high level of professional and social competence. SOS BahnhofHilfe is available free of charge to all travelers and people with disabilities who need assistance when changing trains or transferring to other means of transport in the vicinity of the station or who find themselves in difficulty. For a fee, wheelchairs are rented out, porter services are arranged at Zurich main station and child handovers between separated parents are accompanied.
  • In the residential house PRO FILIA as well as in the Arche residential group, PRO FILIA, Kantonalverein Zürich provides affordable shared accommodation for young women in training and in employment.
  • With a central location close to the Old Town of Zurich, the 3* HotelHottingen offers affordable and clean rooms.
  • Together with the Zurich Vocational Training Association (BVZ), HotelHottingen trains teenagers and young adults in various professions in the hotel industry.

History

1955Acquisition of the property at Hottingerstrasse 31 in Zurich from the Niedermann-Renggli family.  
1965 Opening of the Passantinnenhaus Foyer Hottingen with 95 beds in two- to six-bed rooms, a dormitory with an additional 14 beds, showers and kitchens on each floor, and club rooms under the direction of the Sisters of the Congrégation des Soeurs de Saint-Maurice.   The offer of the Garni-Hotel met a need of young women stranded in the city of Zurich, single mothers with children, women with relatives in the surrounding hospitals as well as homeless women for a temporary, inexpensive home.  
1968Refugees, such as those from Hungary and Czechoslovakia, and later also from Chile, Vietnam, South America, Iran and Afghanistan, were given accommodation in the Foyer Hottingen.  
1998The Congrégation des Soeurs de Saint-Maurice gives up the management of the Foyer Hottingen due to a lack of new staff.  
19994-month renovation period with renovation of the rooms and simultaneous reduction of the number of beds, redesign of the entrance area and implementation of building specifications of the city of Zurich.   Re-opening under the name Foyer Hottingen Garni.   Asylum seekers were accommodated in the former apartments of the nuns.   Our other guests included individuals, groups, families, people with relatives in the surrounding hospitals and repatriate families.  
20113 ½-month renovation period to optimize the range of rooms, redesign the breakfast room and reception area, and implement building requirements of the City of Zurich (fire protection, safety requirements, etc.).   With the reopening, the name change from Foyer Hottingen Garni to HotelHottingen is completed.  
2012Classification as a 2-star garni hotel.  
2016Renovation of the 4th floor of the hotel as well as the entrance area.   The rooms on the 4th floor are enlarged and converted into Comfort rooms.  
2021Classification as a 3-star Garni Hotel.   The club secretariat is moved to the former dormitory of the hotel.

Laundry & Cleaning

As our guest, you decide when the linen change should take place and how often you want the towels to be changed. With this guideline you are actively contributing to the protection of our environment.

Our laundry partner is a member of VTS | ASET and is certified with the label „Textiles washed in Switzerland“ and stands for hygiene and sustainability with his name.

We take the same care with our cleaning products and use the latest generation of automatic dispensing maschines.

Recycling, packaging & energy

The entire team has been trained and sensitized to strictly divide materials according to the applicable standards. Our external disposal company guarantees professional and environmentally friendly disposal directly at the municipal waste disposal companies. The entire range of drinks is offered exclusively in glass and returned to the drinks suppliers as empties to reuse. We do not use dishes or other containers made of plastic or other harmful materials. Care products are whenever possible in refillable dispensers or in certified dosing containers, with enable environmentally friendly disposal. Exceptions apply to personal hygiene items which are intended for single use. The entire building is equipped with energy-saving light sources and motion detectors are installed in many public areas.

Breakfast buffet & snacks

When selecting our breakfast ingredients and snacks, we pay attention to quality and origin and give preference to productions from Switzerland. We also pay attention to the ingredients and avoid products with e.g. palm oil wherever possible. Only very few products on our buffet are in individual packaging for reasons of hygiene. Our breakfast eggs come from barn farms and are from Switzerland. Our fine coffee variations are freshly prepared with beans from the coffee roasters Hochstrasser Kaffee in Lucerne, which holds the “Fairtrade”, “Rainforest Alliance” and “CO2&kWh reduced” labels, among others. Our various blends are freshly roasted at “caffè Don Gerorge” in Untervaz in Graubünden, strictly in accordance with hygiene and environmental protection rules.
